As part of the scientific activities organized by the Center for Biomedical Engineering Research at the University of Anbar, and in cooperation with the University's Center for Continuing Education, Dr. Kadhim Ahmed Abid delivered a specialized workshop entitled "Preventive Maintenance of Laboratory Equipment", aimed at enhancing technical skills and promoting the operational efficiency of scientific and research laboratory devices. The workshop aimed to shed light on the concept of preventive maintenance as a set of scheduled periodic procedures intended to maintain the efficiency and extend the operational life of laboratory equipment, while minimizing the risk of unexpected failures that could disrupt educational or research processes. The session addressed the goals of preventive maintenance in terms of improving performance quality and reducing operational costs. It also explored the main types of preventive maintenance—scheduled maintenance, condition-based maintenance, and predictive maintenance—highlighting the distinctions between them and their practical applications. The workshop concluded with a presentation of real-world examples and technical procedures related to maintenance practices, including routine cleaning, regular calibration, visual and mechanical inspection, and the importance of systematic documentation of equipment conditions to ensure sustained performance. The event witnessed active engagement from participants, who praised the significance of the workshop content and the center's vital role in advancing the technical and academic capabilities of professionals.
